The Region of the West, located in the center of Portugal, has a strong connection to the sea, with coastal landscapes and wonderful beaches, desert islands, fisherman villages, lagoons, historical heritage, hills and mountains with pencilled in mills, and a very rich gastronomy.

In addition to surfing and bodyboarding, it is possible to go kayaking, take unforgettable boat trips, diving, sport fishing, kitesurfing and windsurfing.

The region, located in the extreme south of Portugal, is famous for over 200 km of idyllic beaches and its crystal-clear sea. The region has become one of the best summer destinations in Europe.

The climate is mild, with Mediterranean characteristics, with more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year and low average annual rainfall. The maximum temperature varies between 15 ºC and 31ºC throughout the year.

The Algarve coastline is varied and beautiful, with sands as far as the eye can see, bordered by golden cliffs, almost deserted islands and small bays nestled in rocks.

There is also the mountain, where people live in harmony with nature and maintain secular traditions that they like to share. The city of Silves and numerous mountain villages preserve traces of its Arab past and are a living showcase of traditional architecture.

In the region’s cuisine, fresh fish and seafood, grilled or in cataplanas, stand out. Meals end with almond and fig sweets, accompanied by the traditional bitter almond liqueur or arbutus brandy.
